I used to love this place and even gave them a five-star review in the past. Unfortunately, it seems like all good things come to an end. On 12/27/24 at 6:00 PM, I picked up dinner, but my experience was far from what I expected. I ordered my usual Kung Pao Chicken with extra chicken—a dish I’ve had many times before. This time, however, the portion was shockingly small, more like a kid’s side meal than a proper dinner. Confused, I called the restaurant to give them an opportunity to address the issue. Instead of understanding my concern, I was told, “You can speak to the manager, but it’s not going to make a difference; those are our portion sizes.” As someone who values consistency, this was disappointing, especially since my previous experiences were excellent. If this is their new standard, I guess I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. To be fair, at the end of the call, they said, oh sorry we didn’t add the extra chicken.

Mon’s is in a great location in Alamo Heights and the restaurant itself is quaint and has a neighborhood feel. The food is amazing!!!! Consistently delicious. I’ve had almost everything on the menu at one time or another and I have never been disappointed. And any modifications that are requested are well noted and the food comes out just as one details. The staff is attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. The ingredients are so fresh. One can tell when the food is received. The attention to how spicy an individual prefers his or her meal is impeccable. The prices are great! Not only because of the quality but also the quantity of food one receives. There is both inside and outside dining and the large oak trees outside lend to such a lovely surrounding if dining on the patio! Mon’s is kid friendly and wheelchair accessible. The restaurant is always neat and clean.

Atmosphere is excellent. Very clean and serene. We loved the Thai butterflies. So tasty. The Pad Thai medium is pretty spice and yummy. The children’s chicken fried rice was perfect! My daughter is so picky and loved it. Very lovely shaded outdoor seating. Service was wonderful.

When I visited this restaurant I did not have the highest expectations due to the atmosphere and general decorations, which usually doesn’t bother me because some of the most amazing food is hidden behind ugly places. That being said, my experience was not the best. Seaweed salad was good, but the spring rolls were almost burnt, due to excessive frying. I could barely taste anything besides the batter from the fry. As I know this is a Thai restaurant, but the sushi was far from perfect. The fresh fish on the sushi was warm, and the selection of rolls was not limited but seemed to be repeated.

They serve my favorite kind of curry; sometimes it’s off the chain good, but the taste is very inconsistent. They have a fantastic coconut ice cream. Service is average. One thing this place desperately needs is noise abatement of some kind…we rarely go there because it is so very loud.
